Ways to use your essential oils Aromatic Use

Most commonly tied to our brain and its memory. What you smell can go into your cells and your bloodstream within seconds, making the effects almost instantly.  With that being said, please use in a ventilated area especially with pets and small children.

  • Use cool or room temperature water and add 4-5 drops of essential oil. The amount can be varied depending on the desired effect and the diffuser. (For example try this with lemongrass, sweet orange, and peppermint for an energy boost)

  • Hold the bottle 2-3 inches away from the nose and breathe in the aroma.

  • Apply 1-2 drops to a fabric of choice for indirect inhalation. Such as a handkerchief, cotton ball, shirt collar, hair, and a pillowcase. (Try lavender for a deeper sleep)

  • Add 1 drop in the palm of your hands, rub them together, then cup them over your nose and mouth, and inhale deeply. (Lemongrass is great for relieving feelings of despair)

  • 20oz of distilled water with your favorite essential oil scent and spray.

  • Drop 2-3 drops onto the floor of a warm shower (away from the drain) and breathe in. (Eucalyptus is wonderful for respiratory health)

Topical Use

Some essential oils can be used directly on the skin, but some cannot and should be mixed with a carrier oil or a lotion. It is always best to test a small area inside your arm or the bottom of your foot to see how your skin reacts. When in doubt, dilute--If you have sensitive skin, it is always recommended to dilute the essential oil. It does not decrease the effectiveness of the oil and can aid in absorption.

  • Place 1-3 drops depending on a hot or cold compress and apply it to the area of concern.

  • Take 1-3 drops and put it directly onto your skin. Use 3-5 drops of essential oil with 1 teaspoon of carrier oil such as jojoba oil,

  • Olive oil, coconut oil, if a carrier oil is required. (Try peppermint for aching muscles)

  • Add 4-6 drops to a warm bath and soak

  • Add 1-3 drops to a foot bath (Tea tree oil is great to soothe aching feet)

  • For massage, dilute 15-30 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil.

  • Massage onto the small reflex points. (Lavender is wonderful for an upset child when massaged on ear lobes)

  • Personal use or part of a skincare regimen.

  • Add 4-6 drops to water and use a body spritzer. (Lemongrass is natural insect repellant)

External Use

Many essential oils have natural purifying and cleansing properties and are fantastic for using around the home for cleaning, laundry, and bug repellant, etc…

  • Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the 2 cotton balls and drop them in your vacuum bag to fill your home with your favorite aromatherapy scents while vacuuming.

  • As an alternative to dryer sheets add 4 drops of your favorite essential oil to wool laundry balls or on a damp cloth to add with your laundry.

  • Add 1-3 drops of essential oil to 2 cups of water and spray it on laundry when ironing.

  • Water, Vinegar, 10 drops lemongrass or lavender, 10 drops tea tree mixed in a large spray bottle make a wonderful all-purpose cleaner.

  • Mix your favorite essential oil aroma with baking soda for a carpet powder before vacuuming.

  • Place 2-3 drops of peppermint on a cotton ball and hide around the home where crawling insects like to enter (windows, under sinks, behind the fridge).

NOTE: It is important to know that not all essential oils can be used the same way. Please do your research, use your judgment and start small. Pay attention to how your body reacts to the oils. Too much can overwhelm your system, by causing headaches, or even a reaction if you're sensitive or allergic to the oil.
